The Lake Palace of Udaipur is one of the most beautiful palaces in the world. The Lake Palace was built in the 17th century on a natural foundation of 4 acres of rock. It was initially called Jagniwas after its founder Maharana Jagjit Singh. The rooms are decorated with cusped arches, inland stones of pink color, green lotus leaves and painted mirrors. History

This palace was built under the supervision of Maharana Jagat Singh I, a legendary ruler of the Mewar dynasty. Initially it was named as Jag Niwas after the Maharana’s name. Later in 1963 it was transformed into a lavish hotel by Maharana Bhagwat Singh. Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces tied hands with the royalty in 1971 and took over the charge of its management and running.

Architecture

The architecture of Lake Palace is brilliant with outstanding courtyards, terraces, gardens and fountains. The rooms of the palace are divided into Ajjan Niwas, Phool Mahal, Dhola Mahal, Khush Mahal and Bada Mahal. All these rooms have their own distinct style of architecture and have been adorned with traditional crystal artworks and stained glass works. Here you can also see wonderful ancient paintings adorning the walls.

Lake Palace houses 66 rooms and 17 suites. The rooms and the suites of the hotel are beautifully designed; each having a particular theme & decorated with textiles and handicrafts of the region.
