The Jaswant Thada is a cenotaph located in Jodhpur city of Rajasthan. This memorial site belongs to the Rajput clan and narrates numerous stories from the past.
Jaswant Thada was built in 19th century in the year 1899. This cenotaph was constructed in the memory of Jaswant Singh II, the 33rd Rathore ruler of Jodhpur. Since then it served as the cremation ground for the royals of Marwar.
Jaswant Thada is a milky-white marble cenotaph with a splendid looking architecture which looks like a temple. Its structure underlines the skills of artisans of those times. It is also known as the Taj Mahal of Marwar. The marble stones used in this monument are extremely thin and polished finely; they emit a warm glow when they radiate the sun's rays from their surface.
Jaswant Thada was the traditional crematorium of Jodhpur’s ruling family. The monument is enhanced by a lake, landscaped gardens and gazebos with carvings. Visit here to explore various paintings and portraits of Jodhpur rulers displayed inside the structure. Jaswant Thada is nestling with splendid looking tiered garden and wonderfully carved gazebos.
A secluded place that evokes a feeling of serenity, it is well worth a visit. Small fees are levied for entrance as well for camera.
